VENICE, CA January 19, 2010 – Nationally-recognized law firm management expert Ed Poll, JD, MBA, CMC, announced today an upcoming live webcast to discuss how the nation’s law schools teach – or fail to teach – the fundamental principles of business. “Law School: Are Recent Graduates Prepared for the New Era?”, which takes places January 27 at 11:00am PT / 2:00pm ET, will feature four recent law school graduates who will describe how law school did or did not prepare them for them for The Business of Law®. The session is presented in association with West LegalEdcenter®.

“Law practice and all its supporters represent a multi-billion dollar industry that is governed by the same business principles that govern other professions,” explains Poll. “Yet law schools pay little if any attention to these real-world business concerns. The result is that recent graduates enter their new profession woefully unprepared for the realities and the rigors of the industry. It’s time for that to change.”

Over the course of the session, the recent graduates will describe their current environment, relate their experiences in the legal world, and engage in a lively discussion about the state of business education at the nation’s law schools. Moderator Ed Poll will also discuss his top 10 principles to succeed in this era. As Poll explains, law practice is much more than being able to research case law – new graduates need to be educated on client management, billable hours, fee collection, profitability, and business management. Mr. Poll will use the session to demonstrate the importance of these skills, and educate participants on the basics of The Business of Law®.

Those signing up for the live webcast will also be given a unique opportunity to learn more about Poll’s business principles: all participants will be offered a special package deal on books and CDs from the LawBiz® store, including Business Competency for Lawyers (LawBiz® Management Co. 2006) and Poll’s newest book, Growing Your Law Practice in Tough Times (Thomson West, available February 2010). This special package will be made available to attendees immediately following the seminar. In addition, Ed offers weekly insights on his YouTube® channel (YouTube.com/LawBizGuide) and can be followed on Twitter at twitter.com/lawbiz.

Ohio Lawyers Go to Financial Boot Camp

CLEVELAND. April 28, 2008— National law practice management expert, Ed Poll J.D. M.B.A. CMC, starts a three-city tour through Ohio to deliver presentations on law firm profitability strategies sponsored by the Ohio Bar Association. Poll, the founder of LawBiz® Management Co., will present his program “Sound Strategies & Best Practices for Law Firms: Boot Camp for the Small Firm” to lawyers and firms from Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. The program is accredited for the state’s Continuing Legal Education program.

“We are very pleased to have Ed present to our members throughout the state,” says Fran Wellington, Director of the CLE Institute for the Ohio State Bar Association. “The presentation has been approved for CLE credit and will be very beneficial for attorneys in managerial roles and professional legal administrators.”

Poll will emphasize the importance of running a financially sound firm. His underlying themes for the groups will include creating a streamlined process to bill clients from billable hours with regular invoices, incorporating business management and marketing strategies in firm administration, and building a comprehensive recovery plan. He will also explain the value of cash flow management, calculating fiscal earnings, how and when to increase fees, as well as providing tips on forecasting for the future.

Poll’s presentation addresses the operations and practice development issues that lawyers are not formally trained to perform. As a former practicing attorney and CEO in the manufacturing industry, Poll understands that the business strategies that make companies profitable are fundamentally the same for law firms. He believes that for some lawyers there is a disconnect between focusing on the output of a firm, in terms of handling case loads and briefs, and crafting a business plan that includes a formal billing process and marketing strategy.

“It’s a great opportunity to be invited to present this program to a wide selection of lawyers throughout the state,” says Poll, who just released his newest book Law Firm Fees & Compensation: Value & Growth Dynamics (LawBiz® Management, Co., 2008). “I develop my presentations with lawyers in mind, so that they can bridge the gap between law and business and implement policies that will have a lasting effect.”

VENICE, Calif., September 25, 2007—Law business growth and management consultant Ed Poll announces the release of the new version of his free eNewsletter, LawBiz® Tips, that has a fresh updated look and is presented in a modern HTML design. Arriving weekly instead of monthly, this version offers a new twist on Poll’s already famous advice for lawyers on how to make running a law practice easier, less stressful, and more profitable.

“As readers will notice in the very first issue, the new newsletter has a high value content like the old one but is now delivered in more ‘bite-size’ chunks,” says Poll, founder and president of LawBiz Management Company. Poll practiced law for 25 years, was the CEO and COO of several manufacturing businesses, and has been a consultant to small and large law firms for 15 years. “I’m excited about our new format and hope readers will find it more enjoyable.”

The average issue will feature one article that focuses on a critical aspect of the reader’s law career and business, whether it is low-cost strategies to improve marketing, managing, selling, client management skills, account keeping, or employee relations. The newsletter will also cover some of the personal issues lawyers who run their own practice might feel uncomfortable discussing, such as how to improve relationships at work or what to do with a partner who is not pulling his or her weight. And just like the old newsletter, this one will still feature Ed’s own personal commentary, updating readers on upcoming speaking engagements and family news.

In each issue subscribers also get:
• Access to free gifts and special offers
• Announcements of special events
• Discounts on Poll’s CLE products and coaching
• Their privacy protected. Participants can unsubscribe anytime.

The first issue that was released today discusses why law firm managers should focus less on making money themselves and channel that energy into being a better leader and decision-maker for the firm as a whole.
Legal Fees: Increasing Fees in 2006

December 27, 2005
Venice, CA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Legal Fees: Increasing Fees in 2006

Lawyers have experienced a 5% to 10% increase in revenue during 2005, according to several recent studies. Much of this growth, says Edward Poll, a nationally recognized law firm management consultant and coach to lawyers, has come from increasing hourly rates or acquiring lateral partners rather than by attracting new clients.

Poll addresses both issues in his work. Poll says that revenues can be increased in several ways. Poll's article on increasing fees published in the Association of Legal Administrators, Boston chapter's, new publication deals with when and how attorneys can raise their fees. Poll suggests that fees can be increased by 3% to 5% without complaints from clients.

In 2006, lawyers can experience increased revenues and increased profits by focusing on The Business of Law®! Poll addresses these issues in his resources for lawyers, his speaking engagements and his consulting-coaching.

Poll is the author of Collecting Your Fee: Getting Paid from Intake to Invoice. (Pub. ABA 2003)

LawBiz Management Co. consults with and coaches lawyers and law firms throughout the United States, Mexico and England. Poll is a Board Approved (SAC®) Coach to the Legal Profession. For more information, contact Ed Poll at edpoll@lawbiz.com or call (800) 837-5880; also, please see http://www.lawbiz.com and http://www.lawbizblog.com.
