Exit Interview: What to Tell the Company?

See the New York Times article of today's date (November 27, 2005, "What to tell the company as you walk out the door"), written by MATT VILLANO.

As you depart from a firm, and the firm requests an exit interview, what should you do? First, career counselors suggest that you take time to prepare for this interview just as you did for the initial hiring interview.

Next, be honest, but don't burn any bridges, and emphasize both the positive experiences of your current position and the opportunities that are causing you to leave for a new position (that the current position doesn't offer).

A worthwhile read if you contemplate leaving your current firm at any time in the future. Be prepared!
